Die USA wählen am 5. November einen neuen Präsidenten. Genau wie vier Jahre zuvor wird es ein erneutes Duell zwischen Joe Biden und Donald Trump geben. Mit den Ergebnissen der Vorwahlen geht der Wahlkampf jetzt in die heiße Phase.
Der Präsidentschaftswahlkampf in den USA
Joe Remick ist Nachrichtenredakteur beim österreichischen Radiosender FM4 und selbst Amerikaner. Mit ihm haben wir darüber gesprochen, wie er die Stimmung nach den Ergebnissen der Vorwahlen erlebt und welche Themen bei der anstehenden Wahl eine Rolle spielen.

Es läuft auf eine Wahl zwischen Trump und Biden hinaus
Kein anderer Kandidat und keine andere Kandidatin haben eine Chance, sagt Joe Remick ganz klar. Aber wie kann es sein, dass Trump nach all dem wieder gewählt werden könnte?
Trumps altbewährte Taktiken gehen nach wie vor auf:
"Trump always talks about that he's the victim, so that he appeals to people who feel disconnected from the so-called elites. And so he appeals to the worst sides of people playing the victim and people who feel like they never had a chance in life. And he pretends that he's their protector and their defender. And unfortunately, that appeals to a lot of people." - Joe Remick
Was außerdem bei vielen gut ankommt: Donald Trump ist dafür bekannt, komplexe Probleme wie Migration stark zu vereinfachen. Das unterscheidet ihn von Biden.
"I mean, someone like Biden is more honest and he says it's a complex situation. And a lot of people don't want to hear that, they want it now, they want it simple. It's just not reality." - Joe Remick
Blickt man zum Beispiel auf den russischen Angriffskrieg: Trump hat schon vor ein paar Jahren gesagt, er könnte den Krieg in 24 Stunden beenden, wenn er Präsident ist - viele fürchten natürlich, in Putins Sinne.
"The problem is if Trump gets in again and and the Republicans are holding up this aid to Ukraine that unfortunately, Ukraine could be sacrificed because of these peoples egos and their crazy ideas." - Joe Remick
Und das ist nur ein Beispiel. Trumps Wiederwahl könnte Auswirkungen auf die ganze Welt haben. Joe Remick sagt deswegen auch, Europa sollte sich große Sorgen machen, wenn Trump wieder Präsident der USA wird.
"He couldn't pull the United States by himself out of NATO. But he's got these very weird and strange pro Russian tendencies. And a lot of people think that Putin has something on Trump. I mean, Trump admires dictators like Putin. That's part of it. But maybe Putin might be helping fund his campaign somehow, and a lot of people think that the Russians are very involved in the Trump campaign." - Joe Remick
Und was ist mit Biden?
Für den läuft es im Moment nicht optimal. Eigentlich geht es der Wirtschaft zwar gut, sagt Remick, weil die Preise allerdings steigen, haben viele US-Amerikaner*innen ein anderes Gefühl. Abgesehen davon ist Biden über 80 Jahre alt und hat dementsprechend Probleme, die jüngeren Generationen anzusprechen. Und auch der Nahostkonflikt spielt eine entscheidende Rolle.
"[...] Arab Americans and Muslim Americans, but also many ethnic minorities, many black Americans, many young people, they're angry at Joe Biden for the ongoing support for Israel as long as this war in Gaza continues. Because it's on the television here almost every night and people see the destruction and a lot of people, they find it hard to understand how we're somehow supporting this." - Joe Remick
Gleichzeitig ist Trump für diese Gruppen auch keine Option. Das bedeutet: Viele werden vermutlich gar nicht wählen.
"I think the big problems for Biden is a lot of the people that we've been talking about, the Muslim Arab Americans, a lot of black Americans, they'll stay home. They just won't vote, they won't vote for Trump but then they won't vote for Biden either." - Joe Remick

"I think it would be one of the worst things for the country if Trump becomes president again. [...] First of all, he is an authoritarian and he's basically anti democratic. And he has four major criminal cases against him right now. And if he becomes president again, he'll get immunity from prosecution as long as he's president. So I think if Trump becomes president again, you're going to see a completely different United States it. It'll be extreme right wing and authoritarian." - Joe Remick
Aber Joe Remick gibt die Hoffnung nicht auf.
"He [Biden] gave the state of the Union speech last week. He appeared very energetic and I think a lot of people who might not really like Biden or they think he's too old but I'm trying to stay optimistic that a majority of American voters will go out and vote for Biden because I think this country and the international situation is going to be in a far worse place if Donald Trump gets elected again." - Joe Remick
