Am 17. März erschien die neue EP Eat Your Young von Hozier, deren Entstehung von Dantes Inferno beeinflusst wurde - ein Klassiker, den der Musiker während des Lockdowns gelesen hat. Dante stellt sich die Unterwelt in neun Höllenkreisen vor, was Hozier wiederum aufgegriffen hat:
"It's a very lose and very playful nod to those nine circles and it's more to do with the structure of the album. So it was just a fun way to structure the journey of the album." - Hozier

Die EP ist ein kleiner Vorgeschmack auf sein drittes Album Unreal Unearth, das im Spätsommer folgen soll. Die drei neuen Songs sind allerdings nicht repräsentativ für das komplette Album, erklärt er. Er selbst beschreibt die Platte so:
"A journey in seventeen parts." - Hozier
Ein neuer Song soll bereits in den nächsten Wochen veröffentlicht werden.
"Eat Your Young"
"Eat Your Young" ist ein kapitalismus- und gesellschaftskritischer Song über die Ausbeutung von Armen und Kindern, über Kriege und darüber, wie gefährdet die Zukunft nachfolgender Generationen ist.
Musikalisch ziehen sich durch die EP Rhythm and Blues-Sounds. "Eat Your Young" ist beispielsweise von der Musik von Skip James inspiriert - während des Entstehungsprozesses finden solche Einflüsse aber komplett unterbewusst statt, erzählt Hozier:
"I think your role models, they sort of filter, they find their way into your voice before the making of the song and it's not that I think about them in the making of it." - Hozier
"All Things End"
"All Things End" ist ein Song über eine gescheiterte Beziehung - denn wie der Songtitel schon verrät: Nichts ist für immer.
"I suppose, on the surface it's kind of like a breakup song. I was trying to write something about facing into the end of something, something that can be difficult or bitter or sourful or tragic and just trying to, trying to face into it with acceptance and with a sense of grace and with a sense of courage I suppose." - Hozier
Seine Musik spiegelt allerdings nicht eigene Ängste und depressive Gedanken, sondern verhindert sie eigentlich genau, erklärt Hozier:
"I think the writing is the relief from the anger and depression. You know, I think you write music and enjoy it and that keeps you from being angry and depressed." - Hozier
