Black Honey haben ihr drittes Album A Fistful Of Peaches angekündigt, das am 17. März 2023 erscheinen wird und ihr bisher persönlichstes Album sein soll.

"Most of this record is me trying to figure out where the line is between normal mental health and when you're having breakdowns every day that then become part of normal. I thought everyone cried everyday, I thought everyone had traumatic flashbacks and nightmares. This album is like, what the fuck? I didn't have to have that? It's like opening a new door to a future that I didn't think possible, but it's also soured by the realisation that I had to suffer through so much that I shouldn't have had to. I don't know what I'll make next but it won't be where I was when I made this." - Izzy Baxter Phillips

"Heavy"

Die neue Single "Heavy" ist ein Song über Trauer und Depression, die ganz bewusst das dramatische Bild von Artax's Tod in Die Unendliche Geschichte aufgreift. Entstanden ist der Track an dem Tag, als die Band mitbekommen hat, dass der Gründer ihres Fanclubs verstorben ist. 

"We were talking about the weight of grief and the way it holds you down, about the parallels between grief and depression." - Izzy Baxter Phillips

Gleichzeitig beschreibt Phillips den Song aber auch als eine Art glitzernde Dunkelheit - denn an jedem Tiefpunkt gibt es auch einen kleinen Lichtschimmer. 

Das Musikvideo entstand unter der Regie von Dakota Schiffer, die gleichzeitig auch vor der Kamera zu sehen ist.

Schiffer hat sich dem Thema Transfeminität gewidmet und beschreibt das Video als das Selbstporträt einer sich abmühenden Transperson, deren Äußeres verführerisch und glamourös erscheint, aber eigentlich nur aus einer Überlebensnot heraus konstruiert wurde. 

"Out Of My Mind"

Einige dürften sich in dem neuen Song von Black Honey wiederfinden - vor allem diejenigen, die immer mal wieder mit Social Anxiety und kreisenden Gedanken zu kämpfen haben.

"The story was written from the perspective of a house party – zooming in on a scene where I've said the wrong thing as always and hating it, that anxiety of not knowing how to be. I wanted it to feel like being on your bedroom floor, a bit whirly and vulnerable." - Izzy Baxter Phillips

In solchen Momenten ist der Wunsch groß, den eigenen Gedanken zu entkommen und für einen Momenten zu flüchten, um durchzuatmen und abzuschalten. Wie es im Refrain heißt: "All I wanna do is just get out of my, out of my mind". Auf Instagram schreibt Izzy außerdem in einer Story "It's ADHD month so I hope my fellows can relate to this feeling".

Im Musikvideo sehen wir Black Honey als Abschlussball-Band auf einer Schulbühne performen.

Und auch wenn wir Luftballons, Krönchen, Glitzer-Outfits und Konfetti sehen, wirkt die Szenerie eigentlich nur noch trostloser. Alles endet damit, dass Sängerin Izzy am Boden sitzt und ihren eigenen Kopf in den Händen hält.


Trotz der Lyrics und des Musikvideos ist der Song aber definitiv ein melodischer Track, zu dem man ausgelassen tanzen kann. Vielleicht eine Art Befreiungsschlag und ein Moment der Realitätsflucht - wenn es der Kopf denn zulässt.

"Until now I think I let addiction fill me with guilt whilst simultaneously letting society project shame onto me about my life's choices. We all need a moment to escape sometimes and maybe that's okay? I wrote this song as hungry yearning for relief from a real world I find very hard to process and function in. Maybe I'm not alone in this and maybe it's alright to make bad choices from time to time." - Izzy Baxter Phillips

"Charlie Bronson"

Black Honey haben ihren neuen Song vorab auf Social Media angeteast und schon allein mit den kurzen Snippets große Erwartungen geschürt. Völlig zu Recht: "Charlie Branson" ist ein inhaltlich und musikalisch ziemlich starker Track, der trotz der Ernsthaftigkeit Spaß macht. Das gilt genauso für das artsy Musikvideo, das in einem Boxring-Set spielt und den Track unterstreicht:


Charlie Branson ist übrigens als der "gefährlichste Häftling Britanniens" bekannt. Was das mit dem Song zu tun hat, erklärt Sängerin Izzy B. Phillips so:

"There's a personality in my head that feels like Britain's most notorious prisoner. Sometimes I can't make sense of anything. It's a bind of frustration from having to constantly present myself in a way that society accepts. My mind works differently. I say all the wrong things. I hate being 'ladylike'. I was punished so much for what I know to be my good qualities; a strong minded neurodivergent person who is creative, inquisitive, excitable and in my own universe." -  Izzy B. Phillips

Und weiter: 

"I was medicated, my shine dimmed and I began to see how the world rewards women who turn invisible, "Charlie Bronson" is my rage." - Izzy B. Phillips

Diese ungefilterte Wut in "Charlie Bronson" ist ansteckend, aber auch ziemlich empowernd.
