Mit seiner Band Bleachers hat Jack Antonoff am 8. März das neue Album Bleachers veröffentlicht, mehr dazu kannst du hier lesen. Abgesehen von seiner eigenen Band arbeitet Jack Antonoff als Songwriter und Musikproduzent mit Popgrößen wie Lana Del Rey und Taylor Swift zusammen – die Bezeichnung Starproduzent ist also keineswegs hochgegriffen. Aber worauf kommt es als Musikproduzent an?

Songwriter und Musikproduzent für andere zu sein bedeutet für Jack Antonoff nicht, dass er Musik für andere macht, sondern mit anderen. Es kommt deswegen auch nicht vor, dass er sich im Nachhinein denkt "Mist, hätte ich den Song XY doch lieber selbst behalten", so arbeitet er nicht.
"I've never done that 'cause I don't give away songs, I make songs with people. So if I make a song alone then it's a Bleachers song." - Jack Antonoff
Musik zu machen ist in erster Linie ein Prozess, bei dem es auf Gefühle ankommt. Erst wird viel ausprobiert...
"And then out of nowhere you just hear something - and it can be anything, it can be a drum sound or a lyric or a melody, you just hear something that gives you that feeling. It is really hard to describe that feeling 'cause that feeling is just kind of magic. I guess what it is, you hear what your soul sounds like and that's all you're looking for. And once you have that then you chase that and you wait to hear it again and then you chase that. And all to me a great song or an album is the only things you use are those feelings." - Jack Antonoff
Erzwungen werden kann nichts davon.
"I think it's something that has to happen to you not something that you can make happen. And I think the more you try to make it happen the more you can get frustrated. And I love my work and I love the studio and touring and I never want it to become a frustrated place." - Jack Antonoff
Deswegen stellt Jack Antonoff auch sicher, dass keine Deadlines ausgemacht werden, bevor nicht ein Ende in Sicht ist.
In jedem Ende wohnt ein Anfang inne
Das heißt es doch, oder? So beschreibt Antonoff jedenfalls auch das Gefühl, ein neues Album zu veröffentlichen:

Bleachers gibt es inzwischen seit zehn Jahren. Was als Nächstes kommt, weiß Jack Antonoff nicht, nur, dass es sich gerade anfühlt, als wäre er mit seiner Band mittendrin von etwas sehr Wichtigem.
